چکیده

Predicting and controlling residual stresses are critical issues in welding engineering. With advancements in computer technology, a numerical simulation technique can predict welding residual stress. To accurately simulate temperature and stress fields, the thermal cycle obtained from the finite element model must be in coincidence with an actual heat source. This study performed a Gaussian distribution of the heat flux with an effective arc radius that was selected for the finite element analysis to accurately describe the distributive nature of the heat source provided by the welding arc. The results showed that arc efficiency has an effect on temperature history during welding. The computational results of the temperature history and residual stress showed very good agreement with the corresponding experimental data. This study proposes that the simulation errors in finite element analysis can be eliminated by adjusting the Gaussian distributed spatial heat source and arc efficiency.

Development of a Predictive Finite Element Model For Investigation of Phases Behavior After Cold Rolling Process

One of the surface defects that arise in sheet metal working is when the part removes from the die. Since there are no external forces to make this defect, the origin of such fail is known as residual stress. Residual stress can develop in sheet metal forming due to non uniform deformation. In this paper, the workpiece is carbon steel with different volume fractions and arrangement of ferrite ...

Investigating the Effect of Joint Geometry of the Gas Tungsten Arc Welding Process on the Residual Stress and Distortion using the Finite Element Method

Although a few models have been proposed for 3D simulation of different welding processes, 2D models are still more effective in design goals, thus more popular due to the short-time analysis. In this research, replacing "time" by the "third dimension of place", the gas tungsten arc welding process was simulated by the finite element method in two dimensions and in a short time with acceptable ...
